| Kallimos became a reality in Hattiesburg, Mississippi
as Wesley Manor celebrated their Eden Alternative Registry on October
23, 2003. Not a detail was spared in bringing in the beauty and
the lessons of that magical and mythical place where the wisdom
of the elders is the key to a better life for everyone. Over 200
friends and residents of the Wesley community came in support and
celebration of the remarkable spirit and committment to the inspired
vision made by the fine folks at Wesley and the Methodist Senior
Services of Mississippi organization.
Executive Director Kim Pittman and Eden Associate Suzanne Noble
have led Wesley's staff and residents on this journey for over 4
years with the mission to "provide an environment in which
the journey of life for elders and staff is permeated with laughter,
love, and spontanaeity that fosters independence, dignity and purpose."
Numerous community supporters pitched in to help create this fun,
educational and deeply meaningful evening. Ms. Ollie DeLoach, a
renowned third generation professional story and folk teller from
Laurel, MS served as our Kallimos tour guide. She delighted the
participants, including children from Wesley's 'adopted' class of
the Earle Travillion Attendance Center, with the stories from Dr.
William Thomas' Learning From Hannah.
Congratulations to the residents and staff of Wesley, and thank
you for your wisdom and guidance. Good luck on your continuing journey.
